Charity Easter supper a success

By Vicki Winger

Last Thursday, École St. Joseph School held its Easter mass for students in the gymnasium followed by the wonderful sounds from the choir. After the Easter Mass, the gym was turned over to the graduates in preparation for the evening’s Grad Charity Easter supper. Tables brightened the gymnasium with their colourful tablecloths and centrepieces.

Over 600 tickets were sold for the event with proceeds going to the 2019 grads’ charity of choice. The grads will get together in the near future to discuss where the proceeds would be best utilized. Kara Mundy, grad organizer/high school teacher, said, “It’s been a tradition for our school to hold the charity Easter supper for as long as I’ve been here, and well before my time. We invite Seniors Circle members and family and friends of our graduating class.” The evening event was very well put together by the students and teachers. The graduating class definitely kept the guests entertained with their antics on stage while waiting for the meal. O’Canada was sung followed by a prayer. After the meal, the grads had prepared a special Easter egg hunt in the school foyer and hallways for all the children with a special Easter basket surprise for the winning group. Hats off to the students for putting on a remarkable event and slideshow of their journeys in their last year of school.

There are approximately 78 students graduating this year from École St. Joseph School and they are all quite excited to be finishing up this chapter of their lives and moving on to the next.

Graduate student Cara McNaughton gave some insight on just how much work the grads put into preparing for the Easter supper. “We started cooking Wednesday, April 11 early in the morning. I believe there were at least 40 hams cooked eight at a time. The actual pre-planning for the event took a few weeks. The grads, parents, and teachers decided on who’s doing what, and to confirm the menu and plans. The last few days have been the busiest with final preparations. As for the actual meal preparation, we spent literally two days, all day cooking. It’s been a lot of work but in the end, it was super fun,” she said.
