Lights, camera, action!

By Corrine Gadke

On August 22, Tim McKort, Owner and Producer of A Little Late Films, had his film group shooting a movie scene at the Woodlands County office parking lot. Mckort’s production company features films and television productions with projects at international film festivals and has been showcased in theatres across Canada.

A Little Late Films is close to finishing its film “Spearphishing,” an action drama about a local police officer, Colt Hansen, played by Whitecourt’s Alex Gallant, who is involved with a team of Russian hackers bent on disrupting the Canadian election.  Other actors include Kennedy Chester, Zach Kiffiak, Braeden Mattson, Ashley Clementovich and Amy Sutherland. The actors and crew are prominently from the Whitecourt area.

McKort started filming at the end of July using many local locations for the movie. With the help of Bert Roach, Economic Development Officer for Woodlands County and Dwight Dawn, Community Peace Officer from Mayerthorpe, the filming crew were able to shoot at places such as Whitecourt gun range, Whitecourt Airport, Strike, Deep Creek Campground in Sangudo,  Hard Luck Canyon, Mayerthorpe Country Cabin, Vega Sandhills, and Woodlands County Office yard area, as well as many other locations. “The movie has been a tremendous success,” said McKort.

The set’s atmosphere was energizing as the film crew with Robert Zittlau, lead cameraman, and Dave Foley were catching a drunk driving scene with police lights flashing. Steven Kloosterman, the owner of Silver Rooster Towing, is also in the scene.  Bert Roach said, “it’s so crazy that they are filming a movie here and the gates of Woodlands County will be in it! I will never look at my drive to work the same!” Foley stated, “I’m enjoying myself and the whole process. It has been a great group effort with everyone involved.”

When talking to local actor Zach Kiffiak, a three-year resident of Whitecourt said about acting, “I have always wanted to do this ever since I was little.” Also, adding, “It has been great to be involved in such an artistic and creative process.”

Mayerthorpe Community Peace Officer Dwight Dawn said, “It has been exciting and really interesting with the

whole process of assisting in this production. I am here as an advisor, supplier of apparel and even an extra in the film.” Also, adding the support has been excellent with contributions from the Town of Mayerthorpe and Woodlands County, to mention a couple.

Mckort is very thankful for all the incredible support from Woodlands County, local businesses and all who have helped in making sure the movie is a success. Whitecourt can look forward to seeing McKort’s latest achievement come to life at a red-carpet movie premiere planned for the fall of 2021 at the local Vista Theatre.
