Are you man enough?

The Wellspring Family Resource and Crisis Centre held its Walk a Mile in Her Shoes early bird registration and barbecue on May 14 at Midtown Mall.

Trish Lockard, Assistant Administrator for Wellspring, organized this year’s pre-registration and the main event on June 18, 2019. The annual event is to bring awareness to violence against women. It’s for a great cause and men all across Canada and in the US slip into a pair of red high heel shoes to show their support. The early bird registration was so men could be sure of getting the right sized shoes. Last year, approximately 35 to 40 men participated, and more are expected this year.

Lockard said, “It’s one of our biggest annual fundraisers. A special company made the red high heel shoes. They are much wider with sizes from eight to 14. The shoes were purchased and donated by the Wolverines many years ago just for this event.”

As part of pre-registration, a fundraising barbecue was held outside the doors of Wellspring’s Twice is Nice clothing store. Balon Valves of Whitecourt donated the large barbecue. An estimate of 100 people stopped by to grab a burger. Proceeds go to Wellspring Family Resource and Crisis Centre. For those who missed the early registration, there is still time to sign up.
