Fire starts during roof construction
Shortly before 2 p.m. last Friday afternoon, the Whitecourt Fire Department received a 911 call regarding a fire at the Emergency Booster Station by Sakwatamau Drive. Nick Slootweg, Manager of Public Utilities with the Town of Whitecourt, said, “This emergency booster station provides back up water to the hilltop area. Construction crews were on-site cutting away the old roof when the tar ignited.” The fire was quickly extinguished, and construction of the building will commence once clean-up is completed.
