On June 6, 2015, school bus drivers will compete in the annual School Bus ‘Roadeo’ which will be held in High River this year, and will have various components designed to motivate and reinforce skills, bring public awareness, recognize excellence, and encourage communication.
Based on international NSTA rules and regulations, drivers will be judged on their professionalism through a series of challenges that includes a written test based on provincial standards, commercial vehicle inspections, and driving skills that will include parallel parking, student loading, and offset or diminishing lanes.
The contest is a fun way to challenge one’s self and others in the profession, as well as to meet fellow school bus drivers in the region. At the end of the contest a dinner is enjoyed by all and achievement awards are handed out. Six of the contestants will be eligible to compete at the international level.
The Whitecourt team will consist of Lisa Arnell, Deana Halhead, Jeff Smith, and manager Barb Walsh.
