‘Return to normalcy’ for the schools

The NDP’s plan to restore the $103 million that the former PC Government cut from education funding is welcome news to the school boards. Northern Gateway School Division Superintendent Kevin Andrea says the news will make a significant difference in the quality of service the schools will be able to deliver next year.

This will mean as much as half a million dollars more to work with,” he said. “And we are applying the dollars to those areas where we needed to cut the deepest.”

The schools had been facing further cuts in transportation, support staff, and services to special needs students. “All of those things have been stayed. The public and our students can expect to have a return to normalcy,” said Andrea.
