Ever since the NDP government won the last election, the losing PCs have attacked them endlessly. Reading comments to news stories reveals that the fear mongering that went on during the election is nothing compared to what has occurred since.
But something even more obvious has recently happened. On Friday, June 12, the price of gas at the pump took another hike, again for no reasonable reason. But, a little research revealed some interesting information. While there was a definite pattern, there were instances where the pattern did not fit. One area where that occurred was in the cities.
At this point, I need to point out that that original situation has somewhat changed, even at the time of this writing, and may change more by the time you read this. Currently, Hanna has the lowest price, a very unusual instance, you must admit.
What generally happened on the 12th was that if you lived in an NDP riding, your price went up about five cents a litre. If you lived in a PC or WR riding, it didn’t. Grande Prairie (WR) had cheaper gas than Edmonton (NDP). Bruderheim (NDP) had higher gas than Fort McLeod (WR).
We all surely know that the current price of gas ($1.169) reflects a price for oil of $115 to $120/bbl whereas oil is currently at $60/bbl. It seems that big oil is making up for the loss of their huge profits on oil by increasing the price at the pumps.
I wonder if we all wrote our MLAs if our government might finally do something about this. With the price of oil being down, though still profitable, many jobs have been lost and more will likely follow The hugely overpriced gasoline is hurting every other (than big oil) business. This will likely lead to more job losses as the trickle-down affect goes to work. Just as with the PCs, big oil continues to reap the profits while the rest of Alberta pays the price.
It is time for our NDP government to prove who they represent!
