The Whitecourt & District Public Library and the Royal Canadian Legion hosted a “Veterans’ Living Books” session on November 9 at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre as a tribute for Remembrance Day.
Kyle Scott, vice-president of the Whitecourt Legion was the guest speaker, and was accompanied by several other Legion members to participate in the session. Attendees were treated to first-hand accounts of the members’ experiences as veterans, creating a living book by recounting their involvement in real-life military events.
This is the first year the library has held the event and, hopefully, it will become an annual tradition in the days leading up to Remembrance Day. A living book, or oral storytelling, is a great tradition and a wonderful way for students and children to connect with history and, in this case, our veterans.
