Grade 11 St. Joseph student Sara Hittel received a tour of ANC last Wednesday as part of the Water and Waste Water Dual Credit Program and Tour. She and grade 12 student Josh Zarichny were set to tour the Water Intake Plant, the Water Treatment Plant, and ANC. Unfortunately, Josh fell ill early in his first tour of the water facilities in Whitecourt but will thankfully get the opportunity to reschedule his tours. This project gives teens the chance to see their chosen career path prior to jumping in with both feet as well as show them the significance of it. Sara said she was excited as well as a little nervous prior to her tour of ANC. Keri Hnatuk, the assistant environmental co-ordinator at ANC, said the mill is “excited to take part in the program” and that they are happy to be one of the first to do so. Sara and Josh needed to meet a long list of requirements in order to join the program including having a 95 per cent attendance in school, being a full time student, mechanical aptitude, and they needed to be successful in an interview by an industry sponsor. They are also required to have certain credits and grades, particularly in science and math. Congratulations on your hard work and for making it into the program!
