Quirky, confident and Canadian – those are the words that sum up The Strumbellas, a six-piece band from Lindsey, Ontario.
The Strumbellas hit the music scene in 2009, playing songs at clubs across Toronto. As their popularity grew, the band branched out and started touring across the country. By 2012, The Strumbellas were ready to launch their first album, My Father and the Hunter, featuring songs that span a number of genres. The album was a great success, earning the band a JUNO nomination.
The debut album was followed up with We Still Move on Dance Floors, which netted the band a JUNO award, SiriusXM Indies Folk Group of the Year award, a Polaris Music Prize nomination, an Ottawa Folk Festival’s Supernova Rising Star Award, the Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Album of the Year and the CBC Music’s Rising Star award.
After touring through 2014 and hitting the studio for a new album in 2015, The Strumbellas are on the road again. You can catch this popular Canadian band on Friday, October 21 at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre. Tickets for this licenced event (minors must be accompanied by an adult) are $39.95 and can be bought at the Centre, online at www.whitecourt.ca or by phone at 780-778-3637.
