The 3rd Annual Central School Haunted House brought out the screams on Friday afternoon. Parent volunteers spent the evening prior transforming the stage into a dark, scary place filled with hidden characters, red and orange lights, creepy creatures dangling from the ceiling, decorations spewed all over tables that lined the path, characters that reach out and touch your legs and noises randomly breaking the silence between screams. Needless to say, they did a fantastic job!
Shereen Trenchard, one of the volunteers and characters in the house, said putting on the yearly event “is a way for the school community to have fun together. I love the kids who are timid at the beginning and then they make it through. They overcome their fear.”
A majority of the decorations were donated and the school council provided parent volunteers a budget to put towards it as well. All of the student body, roughly 360 children and faculty, walked through five at a time, some joined by teachers and others tightly holding onto their friends.
Another one of the spooky characters reaching out from the shadows, Deena Trischuk, said “it’s important to be involved in the school” adding with a laugh “and what better way than to give them a good scare!”
As the first group would head in, in front of their awaiting classmates, comments of “it can’t be too scary they aren’t screaming” were quickly regretted as screams erupted and five scared kids ran out of the exit. The looks of those waiting in line were absolutely priceless!
Here is one hilarious exchange between two students as they walked through.
“My leg was grabbed! There’s something under the table! Which table? THAT ONE! I can’t see. Which one? (SCREAMS) I found the table!” It ended in lots of laughs. Well done parents and volunteers, you gave everyone a great Halloween fright!
