Festive fun in the Fieldhouse

The Allan & Jean Millar Centre held its annual Santa Party in the ATB Fieldhouse on December 10. Despite frigid temperatures and a nasty wind howling outside, the community came out to participate.

Original plans included a sleigh ride but the cold did away with that and, instead, everyone played their hearts out with the numerous activities set out for them from basketball to floor scooters and the Tim Hortons bouncy castle. There was a large section for crafts where children could make paper wreaths, decorate paper stockings, and create a Santa face on a pie plate. A large checkers board proved popular as did a life-sized tic tac toe game.

Ho! Ho! Ho! Santa was there, too! The jolly man in red made an appearance which was a thrill for the children and their parents. After all, it’s not a Santa party without Santa himself.

Tammy Trigg-Klein, who took in the event with her husband Rob and their children Brooklyn and Kameron, said events like the Santa Party are much appreciated, “We really like coming to these events. It’s nice especially on a cold day like today to be inside and have fun. My kids love it and we enjoy playing with them.”

Organizer Emma Harper said that roughly 250 kids came out, “The event was great especially for the weather and everyone seemed to have a really good time.” The Santa Party has been happening for five years and is sponsored by Tim Hortons in partnership with Parent Link.
