Living Waters hires new corporate treasurer

By Reed Clements

The Living Waters Catholic Regional School Division that serves Whitecourt, Edson, and Slave Lake has announced that Bryan Turner, CPA CA, is their new corporate treasurer.

While the search to fill the position was nation-wide, Living Waters ultimately chose an Alberta local to fill this opening. Turner has over a decade of experience as a chartered accountant, and has served as treasurer on numerous volunteer boards, including the Alberta College of Paramedics and the Grand Prairie Referee Association. However, his specialty is education. He became a Certified School Business Official in 2007 and has served for five years on the board of the Association of School Business Officials of Alberta.

Turner also has a passion for hockey and baseball, and volunteers his abilities to numerous smaller sports organizations.

Living Waters found Turner with the assistance of consultants Terry Gunderson and Jeanne Fontaine, who work for the Alberta School Boards Association.

The Living Waters Catholic Regional School Division provides nearly 2200 students with an education that emphasizes critical thinking, problem solving, and the ethical values of the Catholic faith. Their goal, according to their website, “is that every child who enters our doors will graduate from a faith-filled safe and caring environment, prepared for future success.”

The division provides numerous programs, including a French immersion program in Whitecourt. They also seek to provide inclusive education for First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students, with a stated goal of increasing graduation rates for those populations.

As corporate treasurer, Turner will help Living Waters to best allocate their resources, in order to ensure their continued ability to provide quality education in Whitecourt.
