Get ready to see flamingos in Whitecourt! Of course, the real wild birds are not suited to our climate, but the 36 that may appear mysteriously on your lawn, or in yards around the community, are perfectly suited for the Whitecourt-Yubetsu Exchange Committee summer fundraiser!
From May 24 until the end of September, youth will be participating in a flamingo flocking event. Up to 36 flamingos will mysteriously appear on community members’ front lawns late in the evening, and roost there for the day until they move to a new location the next night. Where the flamingos decide to spend the night will be decided by donations made to the committee. All the money raised from this event will support local youth who are going on an educational exchange trip to Japan in 2018.
The cost is $20 for 12 birds, $30 for 24 and $40 for 36; the best part is, people can send the birds to a neighbour or friend’s house as a surprise! Not in the mood to have 36 pink flamingos on your lawn? Then you better buy $10 worth of flamingo insurance to prevent the flock from invading!
Get in on the fun and support a great cause. Bookings can be made from the Facebook page, email (lauramohler@yahoo.ca) or phone 789-286-5139. Bookings can also be made directly with any of the youth who are going on the trip.
Please note that there is still time for youth to join the trip to Japan. There is room for a total of 17 students between the ages of 13 and 18. The trip is two weeks long with one of those weeks being a home stay with a Japanese family.
