This past Saturday, Little Big Fort held its sixth annual pumpkin carving contest at Midtown Mall. With the rules laid out for the children, the carving began. Pumpkin seeds, stencils, and carving tools were spread across the table. The laughter was contagious throughout the mall while children carved designs into their pumpkins. Over 30 pumpkins were donated to the carving contest this year by mall manager Herb Steffensen.
Patsy Imbery is one of the owners of Little Big Fort and organized the pumpkin carving event along with Line Guiynard and Tim Imbery. Patsy Imbery said, “The pumpkin carving contest is something we started when we first opened. Some of the kids came to me and asked to start a pumpkin carving contest. We didn’t have many kids here at the time so about seven of us had a carving contest! At the time there were no prizes, but we took pictures. We all just had a fantastic time. Every year we have a blast. There are families that I have watched grow up through this contest. The only thing that makes the pumpkin carving contest better each year is that we have more children participating! Even when the turnouts aren’t always that big we have the chance to brighten the day of the children that are here, and that is why we do this every year!”
Trace Tipler, an attendant of this year’s pumpkin carving contests said, “I come to Little Big Fort all the time. The best part is helping other people. It’s a really cool place to come to and I am glad that it’s here.”
Be sure to register for the gingerbread house decorating contest in December when the event is announced.
