The Whitecourt Cats travelled to Valleyview Wednesday, October 17 to play their last out-of-town game and the final of the regular season. The Cats managed to claw their way to another win against the Valleyview Cougars with a final score of 35-6.
Head Coach Kevin Babiuk said, “The Cougars played them pretty tough and gave us more of a battle than what the score looked like. It was a good game, and we’re happy with the way it went overall. The Cats probably exceeded what most people expected as we have a young team this year. Only five are in grade 12. The new kids fit in very nicely. Everyone is playing well as a team.”
League playoffs for the Cats is October 27 in Grande Prairie. “Should the Cats win that game, they will play in the Peace Bowl which would be awesome,” said Babiuk.
The Cats finished in second place which qualifies them for Provincials. They will be the league representatives going into the first round of Provincials which begins November 10 in St. Albert against the Skyhawks. “Despite the end of the season, we still have a little football left to play this year,” Babiuk said.
