The Government of Alberta created June 2 to June 8 as Seniors’ Week in the province. It’s a week in which everyone could show appreciation to our seniors by hosting an event or just spending time with them.
Woodlands County showed its appreciation and thanks by hosting a fun-filled afternoon at Anselmo Hall last Thursday. Approximately 150 seniors attended from both Whitecourt and Woodlands County to participate in a catered luncheon by Mama Gray’s Kitchen followed by entertainment. For those who resided further out in the county, busing was offered to make the commute easier. The turnout was great and gave the seniors a chance to socialize with their neighbouring residents from various communities.
The opening act was belly dancer Danielle Merrifield from Revitalize Dance Fitness showing off her amazing talent, grace, and posture as she dances to the music. To close out the afternoon, Lewis & Royal hit the stage with their comedy and singing acts leaving the crowd laughing at their hilarious performances.
County Mayor Ron Govenlock said, “It’s a celebration to our seniors who built the communities and we owe a great deal to them. It also marked the 75 year anniversary of D-day and the Battle of Normandy. We need to recognize the sacrifices made for a better quality of life which we all enjoy today.”
