Thrills of a carnival

Children and teens were thrilled as West Coast Amusements rolled into town Monday, June 3 for preparation of the fair Tuesday afternoon. With the prediction of rain and the dark clouds looming in the distance, the weather held out and the night turned out to be a dry one.

Long ago, the fair used to be several days long but over the years was reduced to one day leaving many families disappointed as the event occurs on a workday. Nonetheless, residents came in droves making for extended lineups.

The carnival had something for everyone including getting strapped in and hung upside down, going for a crazy fast spin in a circle, or down the huge slide. Toddlers hopped aboard the train, rode a dragon, and flew in a helicopter. One of the more popular stops for the kids was the Mardi Gras otherwise known as the House of Mirrors. Kids made their way through the maze with laughter and the sound of echoes of heads hitting the walls as they turned a corner on a dead end.

Many who attended preferred to purchase the bracelet which gave them all evening access to the rides. They would ride many times while the waiting parents socialized or snacked on donuts.
