Pop can tabs are back

The Knights of Columbus pop can tabs are back after it faded away after rumours surfaced that it was known to be a scam or hoax; fortunately that is not the case but in fact a contributor for its funding and partnership with the Canadian Wheelchair Foundation. Through that partnership, the pop can tabs that are collected go towards wheelchairs for less fortunate people who are unable to afford one and hopefully give them back a piece of their independence. The KOC can purchase a wheelchair valued at $600.00 for a lower cost at $190.00 through the Wheelchair Foundation and distribute them to people worldwide who otherwise are unable to have one provided for them.

The Whitecourt Knights of Columbus kicked off their campaign this past spring through spreading the word which was received more successful than expected as Grand Knight Leo Zelinski stated, “word got out through our parishioners that we were collecting tabs, next thing we know we got 3 five gallon buckets full of tabs donated to us”.  This donation was collected through Highway 43 Towing from a resident in Mayerthorpe, who wishes to remain anonymous, after hearing about the pop tab donation and was eager to contribute. The KOC was overwhelmed by the generosity which along with other bags collected by Whitecourt residents, will be delivered to their Head Office in Edmonton to be recycled and profits will go towards fitting another wheelchair for someone in need. Zelinski added, “The Knights of Columbus is here to help the needy no matter where they are, it’s just not for overseas, could be residents locally. To date, we’ve had no real requests in our area as the health services supply wheelchairs for those who require one. But, should anyone need one we are here for them”.
