A local home-based business owner takes her creativity for nail art to a competitive level and brings home the gold medal. Bailey Clarke, with a natural gift for art design, began seven years ago by doing artwork on her nails as a hobby. After receiving many compliments and the encouragement from those who saw them, Clarke decided to obtain her professional license and open a nail salon, BeeUtiful Nails by Design.
She said, “I’ve always been intrigued by the different things you can do with nails, really get creative with different art designs and fashion looks. I follow an award-winning nail technician on YouTube who’s known all over the world and, after watching her, I wanted to get into competitions as she does. So I just went for it, began entering and was addicted after that.”
After searching out competitions, Clarke has so far entered three. The first was a national nail competition held in Saskatoon in which Clarke won a second-place and a third-place trophy. In September 2019, Clarke entered the Nail Masters competition and walked away with two third-place trophies and one second-place trophy. Most recently, Clarke entered a global competition on November 9 and 10, 2019 called Nailympia where she received her first-ever gold medal. The competition was based on categories and themes as well as doing hand in pieces that are mounted into a frame similar to artwork and, lastly, doing the live timed portion along with other nail technicians in front of judges.
