This year the Tim Hortons Camp Day fundraiser was held on Wednesday, August 12. Tim Hortons Camp Day has helped nearly 300,000 youth since it was established in 1991. The funding goes toward helping kids from disadvantaged circumstances. Tim Hortons camps support youths between the ages of 12 to 16 by providing a multi-week summer program, with programs teaching the kids qualities such as leadership, resilience, and responsibility.
Due to the result of Covid-19 earlier this spring, the Tim Hortons Foundation introduced an all-new digital Tim’s eCamp with counsellors helping kids build social, emotional, and developmental skills. The eCamps kicked off at the beginning of July and will run for eight weeks. Participants will be grouped into eCabins and will be supported and guided by trained eCounsellors.
Like every year, the coffee franchise will be donating 100 percent of its proceeds of hot and iced coffee on Camp Day to the Tim Hortons Foundation Camps. Whitecourt’s local Tim Horton’s hilltop location has been contributing every year since opening in 2001, and Tim’s downtown has been contributing since opening in 2011.
Owner Tony Sgro quoted, “The local Tim Hortons restaurants here in Whitecourt donate 100 percent of our coffee sales for the entire Camp Day. Every Tim Horton’s restaurant contributes to Camp day, and we do the same.”
When asked to comment on the new eCamps, Sgro added, “I feel that the eCamps will touch on most, if not all of the camp experience’s leadership and developmental aspects. However, there is no way to replicate the social experience properly. At camp, our kids experience activities like hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting. Unfortunately, these experiences will have to wait until next year.”
Other ways to support these camps include rounding up your order in the restaurant with the balance of the dollar going toward the Tim Hortons Foundation Camps or make a one time or monthly donation anytime at www.timscamps.com.
