Woodlands County Council recap

Woodlands County Council discussed the following items at their recent meeting of Council:

At its annual organizational meeting, Council elected Councillor John Burrows as Mayor for the upcoming one-year term. Council is continuing their current 1st and 3rd Tuesday rhythm for regular Council meetings which will occur electronically until the COVID-19 situation has changed. Electronic meetings are streamed on Woodlands County’s YouTube channel, with agenda packages available on its CivicWeb portal.

During Council’s regular meeting, the Blue Ridge Water Treatment Plant Upgrades were awarded to Nova Mechanical Systems Ltd. for the value of $230,000. The plant upgrades will address the ongoing water colour issues that have impacted residents in the hamlet. The upgrades are expected to take place during the winter months.

The Town of Whitecourt recently purchased a new columbarium for the Whitecourt Cemetery and requested Woodlands County to share in a portion of the capital cost. Council approved a cost-share contribution of $6,286, the new columbarium, which total value was $25,346.

Woodlands County Council begins 2021 budget discussions during special Council meetings on Monday, October 26, 9am and Tuesday, October 27, 9am, held in-person at the Whitecourt Municipal Office, Council Chambers.

The next regularly scheduled Council meeting is Tuesday, November 3, 9:30am, at the Whitecourt Municipal Office, Council Chambers and is in-person to accommodate a visiting delegation.
