The Whitecourt Wolverines put their four-game win streak on the line on Tuesday, September 26 when they welcomed the Bonnyville Pontiacs into the Scott Safety Centre.
The Pontiacs got on the board first, second, and third, opening the game up in a big way. In just over seven minutes of the first, the visitors were up 3-0 with the Wolverines gnawing at their heels. In the second period, Whitecourt would finally catch a break after Cody Laskosky scored a beauty thanks to a perfect feed from Phil Erickson. In the final frame of the matchup, the Wolverines scored one more, an unassisted squeaker from Alessio Luciani, but it wouldn’t be enough to catch the Pontiacs. Final score of the night was 3-2 for Bonnyville.
On September 29-30, the Wolverines took part in the AJHL Showcase in Camrose. On Friday night, the boys took on the host team, Camrose Kodiaks, and it was an absolute blow out. The first period kicked off with the Wolverines scoring first but the Kodiaks quickly took the lead 2-1. Then things went a little crazy as the Wolverines scored seven (yes, seven!) goals in the second period alone. Heading into the third, the Wolverines had a five-goal lead and continued to push hard, notching two more goals past Camrose for a final score of 10-4.
On Saturday, the Wolverines took on the Calgary Canucks and lost in overtime 4-3. The next home games coming up at the Scott Safety Centre will take place on October 6 and 10 against Sherwood Park and Grande Prairie.
