Air Cadets’ Winter Mania

Whitecourt and area residents are big fans of the outdoors. Whether it’s spring, summer, fall, or winter, the community is regularly out in big numbers enjoying what the surroundings have to offer. When it comes to the winter months, it’s time for many to pull up the ski pants, zip up a thick coat, pop on a helmet, and zoom off on the powder to explore the trails.  Snowmobiling is such a popular sport here that our title Snowmobiling Capital of Alberta, is a point of pride for many.

It was this passion for the sport that inspired cadet parent Carolynn Soch to organize the first Winter Mania five years ago. This year’s show was held on November 26 at the cadets’ building just off Rotary Park, and was a draw for avid snowmobilers and those looking to get into the sport.  Showcased in the building were Adrenaline Power Sports, RPM Power Sports, TTRC, Northside Motor Sports from Edson, Trailblazers, and BoonDockers, a clothing line that local riders enjoy.

“I’ve had lots of compliments saying that it’s about time that Whitecourt has a snowmobile show. The trailblazers love it and the local stores are more than happy to participate. Community response has been great.” said Carolynn, who runs RPM Power Sports. “The Air Cadets run the event and the funds raised through admission, barbecue proceeds, 50/50, and the raffle go to the cadets to support the program,” Said Soch, adding that the funds help with building maintenance, equipment, and experiences such as trips. This year they chose to help the food bank by lowering the admission with a food bank donation.
