The Whitecourt & Woodlands Performing Arts Society held its Art. Canvas. Action. event last Friday evening at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre. It was an opportunity for adults wanting an inexpensive evening out consisting of art, drinks, great entertainment, and food.
The fieldhouse was transformed into several areas for guests to mingle and check the venues offered. The centre of the floor held live painting competitions. Ticket-goers watched intently trying to guess what the artists were creating on their canvases.
This year marks the third annual event in which seven local artists: Kadence Kostyk, Ashley Curtis, Paulina Carlson, Indigo Bryant, Natalia Crawford, Candance Wedel, and Kristi Thebeau competed in two rounds of timed competitions. The artists were given 45 minutes per round to turn their blank canvases into a work of art using freestyle painting and a lot of imagination. Winners from each round were voted on by the spectators with the overall winner taking home a cash prize.
Guests also took in the live music on stage by professional musician Riell. The 23-year-old Edmonton songwriter has been touring internationally and recently hit the Top 40 chart for dance-pop, and performed at the Whitecourt Groovy Foodie Festival event this summer. I Am The Mountain was another Alberta-based band from Calgary that kicked it up at the Art. Canvas. Action. event.
New this year was the beer-tasting exhibit brought in by Alley Kat Brewery based out of Edmonton. Alley Kat won the best Alberta brewery for 2019 specializing in unique flavours for those who enjoy something new and fresh.
Another attraction was the body painting done by local makeup artist Stardust Design. The transformation was incredible to watch as she created an entire picturesque scene on the body of her model.
