Canadian singer and songwriter Brian Doerksen made a stop in Whitecourt on his The Heart of Christmas Tour. Over 250 people settled into the Baptist Church last Thursday evening to listen to Doerken’s words of faith transformed into fantastic gospel music.
The stage was set to give a relaxed feeling with a fireplace, candles, and a Christmas tree. As an added flair, the performers had a smoke machine that gave a hazy effect. Doerksen and his band are originally from Vancouver and have been travelling around the province with venues all being sold out. Over his career, Doerksen has had six awards from both the Gospel Music Association of America and Canada’s Gospel Music Association and was presented with an International Award and a Juno award.
Opening the performance for Doerksen was Tim Neufeld, more widely known as Tim & The Glory Boys. The genre for the band’s music is country bluegrass, folk, and gospel. Neufeld, who’s also a Canadian artist, has risen through the ranks receiving numerous music awards and a Juno. His choice in music varies greatly and can be quite infectious when it comes to a boot-stomping rhythm. Despite Doerksen and Neufeld’s flavour of music, they pair very well for an evening in concert with a perfect gospel combination.
