Bre Haun, yoga teacher of Yoga with Bre, is bringing yoga to Mayerthorpe. If you’ve been meaning to give yoga a try, or if you enjoy yoga and want to experience your passion in a group setting, then grab your yoga mat and your water, and check out Yoga with Bre on Tuesday evenings, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Mayerthorpe Parent Link Centre.
“I offer yoga classes to the community of Mayerthorpe,” Haun explains. “Being a small town and farther away from major cities, it’s harder for Mayerthorpe residents to get to classes for yoga. Yoga isn’t just a physical practise for the body; it’s a physical practise for your mind as well. As we flow through an Asanas, we train our minds to overcome hurdles that are created by our ego. Essentially, we ware rewriting the tape inside our outer head by being mindful.”
“I have been doing yoga for almost a decade now,” says Haun as she describes where her inspiration for her yoga class began. “It has taken me around the world to Thailand and across the country to Vancouver for some years.”
“I’ve taken many styles of yoga, from Hatha yoga to Yin, to Ashtanga, to Hot Yoga, but what I resonated with is Akhanda yoga,” Haun continues. “Akhanda yoga was established by Yogi Vishvaketu from India. He and Prana yoga joined forces and began teacher training out of India and Prana yoga, where I have taken my 200 yoga teacher training. Akhanda yoga is an all-encompassing yoga. It focuses on Asana practise, breathing exercises (Pranyam), and meditation. We look at the whole body as a whole, body, mind, and spirit. From doing Akhanda yoga, people experience a sense of peace while still enjoying a physical practise. I have also been trained in kids’ yoga, prenatal yoga, and yin yoga. In the next coming year, I will be indulging in yoga therapy as well.”
“Classes are held at the Mayerthorpe FCSS centre on Tuesdays from 700-830pm,” Haun adds. “Classes will run until the middle of November and will start back middle of January (due to my pregnancy).” Participation in each class costs $10 per person, “and anyone, from beginners to experienced yoga practitioners, are welcome!”
“Yoga can help change your physical body, your mind, your heart, and your spirit,” emphasizes Haun, and her classes are designed to do just that: “You can expect a wide range of postures that will increase your flexibility and stamina,” Haun adds.
