Each Friday throughout the school year, Grade five Central School students volunteer their time at Tennille’s Hope Soup Kitchen. Having 100 students involved in the Leadership program takes a full school year to rotate the children with an average of four students attending the soup kitchen weekly. The Always Caring Eagles volunteer their time with duties that are set out by the staff during the lunch on Fridays. Some students help in the kitchen, set out silverware for guests, serve dessert, or help in preparation before the customers arrive.
Maren Skipper, Success Coach at Whitecourt Central School, sits on the committee for the Leadership Club. “It’s open to any student in Grade five who wishes to volunteer time and give back to the community. Opportunities available are lunch hour office helpers, at Tennille’s Hope Soup Kitchen, or at the Seniors Villa,” Skipper said.
