The first ever Children’s Festival took place on May 21 at the Scott Safety Centre and was enjoyed by over a 1,000 children and parents.
Organizer Kara Grywachewski said that the day was a big success. “It went very well, and we had great weather, which made it even better.”
The festival built on the successful KidsFest that has been held by Alberta Health Services in previous years. That was the day when children and parents learned about issues affecting their health and development, and the Children’s Festival this year began there and added on.
There were drumming circles and a circus centre, as well as interactive musical performances by Chris Fisher with the Foothills Brass Band. There were also visits from the fire department and the SRD who brought games and activities, and even a Barred owl and a Peregrine falcon which were very popular.
The day was informational as well as educational, with child development screenings, community partner booths, and nutrition information.
