The Community Lunch Box is excited to announce the purchase of its new home at The Community Lunch Box Support Centre at 4904 – 52 Avenue in Whitecourt.
Thanks to the generous support of a private investor, the Lunch Box will soon have a bigger and better location. With this loan, all their services will be centralized which has been one of the main goals of the organization. All administration and board operations will be run out of this location, with plans to hold recycling operations here in the near future.
“We have been looking for a space for several years, and it has finally become a reality,” said organizer Tara Baker. “This house has great space, and it’s in a really convenient location.”
The house is next to a bus stop, and easy to find. It also has enough space to build a garage with functional plumbing that will be home to the bottle sorting operations. Plans are underway to begin work on the garage this summer. “We are going to take the time we need and get it done right,” said Baker. “This will be our place.”
The CLB Support Centre will be an even greater asset to the community. It will create volunteer opportunities, and provide part-time employment for adults with disabilities, encourage recycling, and continue to help kids learn better on a full stomach.
Although the Lunch Box is on its way, there are still a few things it needs. If anyone has any questions or would like to help out, please call Tara Baker at the Community Lunch Box at 780-778-8252. Needed still are a new hot water tank and a furnace, and there is a lot of wiring and interior work to be done.
Baker is very excited about the future of the CLB Support Centre. “This is going to make everything stronger. Because of this, we are able to invest in ourselves and in our own programs, and continue to help wherever we can.”
