Crash sends some passengers to hospital

Last Saturday afternoon a collision occurred at the intersection of Dahl Drive and Highway 43 in Whitecourt. A Greyhound passenger bus bound for Grande Prairie with a stop in Whitecourt collided with a traffic light post. All available emergency personnel responded to the collision. There were multiple passengers injured requiring transport by ambulance. The more serious were transported to the hospital while other passengers were assessed and given first aid on the bus. The driver of the bus was not injured and could not release a statement to the media. Greyhound Canada could not be reached for comment.

Fortis was on scene to assess any damage to the traffic light. Although there is a very slight lean to it, the post remains intact and operational. Emergency personnel on scene worked quickly to clear the highway and have the bus towed away. Arrangements were made to have the Whitecourt transit bus take the remaining passengers to the Greyhound depot, so they could continue their journey.

This incident comes on the heels of an accident in British Columbia in which a Greyhound bus and another passenger bus carrying a total of 97 passengers were involved in a multiple vehicle collision on the Coquihalla Highway.
