On March 10, 2020, Edson RCMP, with assistance of Edson RCMP Traffic Services and General Investigation Section (GIS) arrested two males involved in a string of recent thefts.
On March 10, 2020, at approximately 2:20 a.m., it is alleged that two males stole an enclosed trailer from Read’s Plumbing in Edson. The suspects then drove to Integra Tire and broke into a locked container, where they stole a number of tires. Later that morning around 5:30 a.m., the suspects stole a white pick-up truck with a trailer attached, carrying three snowmobiles, from the Guest House Inn and Suites in Edson.
Some of the stolen items were equipped with GPS trackers and RCMP were dispatched to their location at 6:15 a.m. RCMP located a number of the stolen items; however, no suspects.
Edson RCMP GIS conducted patrols and located the suspects driving the stolen black pick-up truck. Edson RCMP members successfully deployed a spike belt on the suspect’s vehicle on Medicine Lodge Road, bringing it to a stop. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The suspects were located by police a short distance from their vehicle and resisted arrest.
The suspect vehicle was searched, and the following items were seized: two loaded firearms and stolen property.
Daniel Patrick O’Donnell (32) of Tomahawk, Alta., and Alexander HARRIS (46) of Hinton, Alta., are jointly charged with:
· Break and enter – business
· Theft over $5,000 (x4)
· Flight from peace officer
· Obstructing a peace officer
· Disguised with intent to commit indictable offence
· Careless use of a firearm
· Possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public
· Unauthorized possession of prohibited firearm in a motor vehicle
· Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
· Possession of stolen property over $5,000
Daniel O’Donnell and Alexander Harris are further charged separately with possession of a firearm while prohibited (x2).
Following judicial hearings, both subjects remain in custody to speak to bail in Edson Provincial Court on March 17, 2020.
