Eris Moncur is looking for the PC nomination for the Peace River-Westlock riding. He has lived in Whitecourt since 2009, currently serves on town council and is the vice-president of operations and general manager of the Eagle River Casino. He believes this will put him in a prime position to represent Whitecourt’s needs at the federal level.
“Work done at the federal level impacts community,” Moncur said. “So, I will be really in tune to what the municipalities actually need, and what role the Canadian government plays in making the aspirations of municipalities come to fruition.”
Moncur has been a supporter and contributor of the Conservative Party of Canada for more than 10 years and has experience working on federal campaigns. He believes the party’s platform expresses values that reflect the rights of all individuals and families.
Moncur is very excited to be running for office at a time when things are getting interesting, in terms of new electoral districts. The Peace River-Westlock riding is new, and one of the biggest in Alberta. Moncur says this new district breakdown is an opportunity to strengthen existing partnerships and to build new ones among the towns and regions in Peace River-Westlock. He hopes to start fresh with new ideas that celebrate the diversity of the region, from Northern Alberta to Barrhead and Westlock. It will be a conversation that will include many diverse groups including the First Nations of the area.
“Municipalities that have not shared a common interest will be put into a conversation about their regional needs,” he said. “I hope to bring all the municipalities in the new riding together talking about those common needs, and then representing their needs in the federal government.”
Voting for the local candidate will take place in the first week of July to prepare for a Federal Election in October. To vote in the candidate election, visit www.erismoncur.ca for a membership application, or phone 780-746-2065.
