Get ready for academic summer boot camps!

Gateway Academy Summer Boot Camps are coming to Hilltop Jr/Sr High School in Whitecourt.

The boot camps provide an opportunity for students in grades nine to 12 from in and around Whitecourt, Woodlands County, and Fox Creek to learn about and explore topics that may be of interest to them. It’s an opportunity that can help them develop skills and hone talents in a hands-on, educational space over the course of the summer.

The program is made available by Northern Gateway Public Schools (NGPS), Alberta Labour, the Town of Whitecourt, Community Futures, Woodlands County, and Living Waters Schools

The unique and challenging Summer Boot Camp experiences run in July and include a culinary arts boot camp, which takes place from July 4 to July 14; a boot camp on coding an app (July 4 – 14); a Class 1 truck driver training course that runs from July 4 to July 14; an art boot camp (July 4 – 14); a robotics boot camp that runs from July 4 through July 8; forestry and forestry equipment operation (July 4 – 14); a Cisco Networking Academy boot camp (July 4-14); a construction course runs between July 4 – 14; First Aid for Animals (July 10-14); a Business Enterprise boot camp runs from July 10 – 14; Medical Minds will be held between July 10 and July 14 (students will receive First Aid and CPR certification by the end of the boot camp); and a safety certification boot camp, held between July 4 and 8, will provide interested students with a 3-year certification in H2S Alive, Confined Spaces, Detection and Control of Flammable Substances, WHMIS 2015, Ground Disturbance, Fall Protection, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.

The boot camps range in their offering of credits and are designed to provide hands-on, intensive, subject-oriented learning experiences in order to help students discover the career options and opportunities that appeal to their interests.

There is a $25 registration fee for each course.
