On May 2, there will be a lot of girls in Whitecourt having a very good time.
Girls from Whitecourt, Edson, Jasper, Hinton, Fox Creek, and Mayerthorpe will be taking part at the ‘Go Girl’ Conference. These girls, aged 11 to 15, are invited to come and try out physical activities that are new to them. The activities include hooping, aquacize, archery, kickboxing, dancing, cooking, and others. Participants will make five choices from among the 25 offerings. “These should be things they have never tried before,” said organizer Kelly Sadoway, “and, hopefully, they will find something new that they love and will keep going with.”
Sadoway went on to say that there are plenty of statistics that indicate that young women stop being active as they grow older. “Being involved in physical activity helps women and girls stay strong and healthy, and become more confident as they grow,” she said.
The conference is expected to bring in 160 girls, and there is still room for registrations. The deadline to register is April 25, and the cost is only $20 which includes lunch and snacks.
