High paws! The Cats score a wicked victory over the Pioneers

Friday, September 22 was a beautiful day for a football game. After some rather interesting Alberta weather this past week, both fans and players were ecstatic to see sunshine for the end-of-week matchup between the Whitecourt Cats and the Peace River Pioneers.

The Cats led the game 6-0 into the second quarter when Peace River managed to snap one past the Cats’ defensive line including a field goal taking the lead 7-0. In the final two quarters of the game, each team managed to add points to the board, but the Pioneers kept a tight hold on their lead in hopes of scoring an away victory.

But, with only 19.4 seconds left in the game, when it seemed that the Pioneers were going to take it, the Cats rallied hard and scored a late touchdown. The fans went absolutely wild and the Cats were jumping for joy as they saw their hard work pay off big time. Great job, Cats! Final score was 19-14. The next home game for the Cats will be on October 5 against the Hillside Jr./Sr. Cougars from Valleyview.
