Lorne’s Blanket

Lorne’s Blanket, located in the rear of the Whitecourt Family Worship Centre, is a comforting place filled with support and compassion. Last week the public was invited to tour it and see how the men live as well as see the process men go through to receive help from the organization. Strict guidelines are in place to help create a beneficial environment. Each year roughly 25 men utilize the services and currently five men are staying at the facility. Operations manager, Laurie Ellis, whose husband Rodger partners with her in the position, says that Lorne’s is “all about the encouragement and assistance of men making positive changes in their lives.” Laurie says it’s a “non-judging place big on second chances” and that the support in Whitecourt has been wonderful. For those looking to make a difference, perishable donations like fresh foods are graciously accepted as well as other non-essential needs such as paper towels and Coffee-mate. All donations can be dropped off at the church Monday to Friday or by calling 780-778-2572.
