Mayor Chichak re-elected to AUMA

By Rechell McDonald
Mayor Chichak will be taking on the responsibility of serving as the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) Executive Vice President – Towns for another year.

Originally elected to this role in October 2014, the mayor has the duty of acting as representative for towns across Alberta. In addition to this appointment, Mayor Chichak also represents Towns-West as an AUMA Board Director since 2013. In a press release earlier this month the mayor had this to say about the re-election:

“It is a pleasure and honour to represent towns from across Alberta on the AUMA Executive,” said Whitecourt Mayor Maryann Chichak. “On a local level, the knowledge I will bring back to my hometown will greatly benefit Whitecourt residents. Furthermore, the relationships I will have the opportunity to build through AUMA with government agencies and provincial government representatives will increase the awareness of Whitecourt on a provincial level.”

AUMA represents urban municipalities in Alberta, which account for 85 per cent of the province. AUMA works to advocate for towns, villages, and urban municipalities at all levels of government to help secure stable and reliable funding to support everything from social and environmental needs, to economic and local government objectives.
As mayor of Whitecourt, Maryanne Chichak has an insider perspective on the needs and challenges of towns in Alberta and is constantly advocating for Whitecourt and its needs, both immediate and future. AUMA provides a great platform to speak about not just what Whitecourt needs, but what similar towns across the province are in need of. It’s a big job to speak on behalf of others, but Mayor Chichak is tackling the appointment head-on, for the second year in a row.
