The 5th Annual Mutt Strut was held Saturday, September 14 at Rotary Park. Canines and their owners took part in a five-kilometre run or walk around the pond and, this year, organizers laid out an alternate, more scenic route. Since its inception, the event has been gaining popularity around the province including Whitecourt.
The local event is co-sponsored by Global Pet Foods, Pet Spa & Portraits, and Original Joes with all proceeds from the event going to Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS). Included in the event was a raffle table, 50/50 tickets for a chance to win some great prizes, and all participants received a swag bag for his or her pet.
The Mutt Strut idea came from former manager Ellen Elton of Original Joes. The restaurant was looking for something to do in the community and Elton approached Global Pet Foods Manager Clara Gann. Between the two of them, the Mutt Strut kicked off and now remains an annual event.
Gann said, “This event is a great way to raise money for a much-needed and appreciated organization. SCARS does a great job of matching families with compatible companion animals and saves thousands of animals each year. If you’re looking to add a new family member, the society has a wide variety to check out.”
