Night Out in Whitecourt goes retro

By Vicki Winger

The monthly Night Out in Whitecourt (NOW) event was held on April 5 at the Scott Safety Centre. NOW events are geared towards adults who’d like to get out for a few hours, socialize, and meet new people. It’s an opportunity to step outside your normal realm and try something new each month. The activity for this month was skating. Courtney Milford, Arts and Culture Co-ordinator and Emma Harper, Recreation Co-ordinator decided to put a spin on it and turned it into a retro skate from the 70s and 80s. Skaters had the option to dress up with clothing or items from that era and skate to the music from the oldies.

Over a dozen people attended the event which was a better turnout than the skating event held last year. Overtime Grill offered a variety of snacks half-way through the event to allow skaters a break from the ice.

The next NOW event will be darts held on May 17 at the Legion downstairs. This will be the last event for the season. Those who haven’t had a chance to see what NOW is about, should come to the Legion at 7 p.m. NOW will start back up again in the fall.

Cutline: The NOW event was a retro skate at the Scott Safety Centre. For some, the skating was a little rusty, but everyone got on the ice and had a great time.
