The deadline to nominate a volunteer who has made a significant contribution in a senior’s life is coming up soon. Nominations for the Minister’s Seniors Service Awards must be in by May 19, 2017.
The awards recognize an Albertan of any age who volunteers their time to make a difference in a senior’s life. There are three categories this year. One is for an individual of any age, the other is for an organization, and the third is a new award this year. The Alice Modin Award recognizes a senior for their volunteer service to the community. The nominee for this award will be someone who has given 20 years or more of volunteer service, and is 65 years or older.
“This year, I am pleased to announce the inaugural Alice Modin Award as part of the Minister’s Seniors Service Awards. Alice Modin started a campaign to launch a seniors’ day in Strathcona County about 30 years ago that helped pave the way for a province-wide Seniors’ Week. The Alice Modin Award will honour a senior who has provided long-term volunteer service to their community, promotes volunteerism by or for seniors, or whose volunteer efforts have had a provincial impact,” noted Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Seniors and Housing.
You can find the nomination package online. Email any questions to seniorsinformation@gov.ab.ca. Be sure to complete correct form, and support it with letters and a summary of volunteer activities. You must have the nominee sign the form to be considered for the award.
Last year 63 individuals and organizations were nominated and recognized across Alberta. If you know someone who deserves to be in this category, please nominate them before May 19.
