Northern Gateway gives recognition to employees

Northern Gateway Public School (NGPS) held its 23rd annual Employee Recognition gala on Friday, September 28. The theme for the evening’s event was Gateway to the World. Not only was it original but the event was well-planned and executed flawlessly. From the moment you stepped through the doors of Westward Hall, you were greeted by the hostesses and a display board of airline flights to various destinations. Depending on which school you attended would determine which ‘flight’ (table) you were to be seated at.

Once the opening ceremony commenced, the speaker presented the night’s agenda as if you were listening to a stewardess on an airline even including the fastening of seat belts and the proper positioning of your chair. Superintendent Kevin Andrea and Board Chair Judy Muir from NGPS presented over 100 employees with Years of Service awards. They ran from five years to 45 years in five-year increments. Two principals were recognized for giving 35 years of service each. Recognition was also paid to 20 retirees who, with combined years, had given over 300 years of service to Northern Gateway. The evening ended with a special tribute to the retirees and a memorial to the late Judy Bowey, a music teacher at Fox Creek School who passed away in 2002. Many have and will always remember her.
