Paul Chauvet is running for a second term on Whitecourt’s Town Council. He moved here in June, 1998, to begin a real estate career, and he couldn’t be happier with his choice to be involved in Whitecourt’s business and political communities.
Chauvet raised his family in Whitecourt, so he knows the importance of serving a community that serves its citizens in return. He was raised on a farm near Legal, Alberta, and went to Lakeland College in Vermilion. He was involved, even then, in local politics, serving on the school council and as the student body president. In 2001, he bought the franchise rights to Exit Realty in Whitecourt and Fox Creek.
Chauvet has been involved with the Whitecourt Cats Football team as a football dad, and with the Pumpjack Players Theater Group as a performer representing Whitecourt on the provincial stage. He joined the Knights of Columbus and served as a trustee for the Living Waters School Board for six years, and he was elected as a councillor for the Town of Whitecourt in 2013.
He is running for a second term because he wants to continue the work he has been doing. “I learned a lot in the last four years,” said Chauvet. “There was a big learning curve when I first got on council. Now that I’m going into a second term, I’m even more excited because I can focus more on execution than research.”
On the council, he has been serving on the Economic Development Committee, the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, the Whitecourt Woodlands Tourism Committee, the Airport Advisory Committee, the Forest Advisory Committee, and several others.
“As far as a platform, I am mostly concerned with getting the best value for the projects that are on our 20-year plan,” he said. “I want to make sure that the projects the town invests in are the ones that affect the largest number of residents, not just a handful. We need to get the biggest bang for the buck, so the more people that use something, the better!”
