Alright, Alberta. It’s time to show the rest of Canada how winter is done.
Have you been looking for an excuse to brave the cold and snow long enough to get out and enjoy all the wintertime beauty Alberta has to offer? Here’s your chance. Winter Walk Day is on its way, so grab your spouse, your kids, your best friend, or your whole office and get out there to experience Alberta.
Winter Walk Day falls on the first Wednesday of each February, which means this year it takes place on February 4. This year, more than 160,000 Albertans will be taking part so you’re not going to want to miss out.
Winter Walk Day is an event designed to promote and celebrate the beauty of living in a winter province.
This year, thousands of Albertans will be participating and, as Shannon Stambaugh, Wildfire Information Officer in Whitecourt, Alberta describes, “Whether we’ll be grabbing our coffees and going for an office break walk or going for an evening stroll through the neighbourhood with family, we all have the opportunity to get out and love our province!”
And the more people who get out to walk, the better it is for the overall health of the province. It’s great for physical heath, the environment, and it helps to strengthen communities, too.
There are incentives available for schools who would like to encourage their students to participate. So, register your school, community, workplace, or even your best friend and get ready to start walking.

So, grab your boots and remember to keep track of your steps so we can show the rest of Canada that Alberta knows how to embrace winter!
