The ATB Financial Fieldhouse at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre was filled with squeals, laughter, and excitement on the evening of Saturday, April 7 as the monthly Tim Hortons’ Community Fun Night was in full swing. The free event is always a big hit with children and parents as the AJMC staff makes sure to set up numerous stations to take part in, making it fun for all ages.
This month’s theme was Beach Party and it was perfect for everyone longing for nice weather. There were beach games such as coconut bowling, several crafts, and a relay race that involved running back and forth while adding new pieces to your costume. By the end, kids were dressed up with floppy hats, Hawaiian tops, goggles, and flippers.
Jesslyn Jones, Recreation Co-ordinator at the AJMC, said she was very happy to see so many families come out and enjoy the event. She said the pool was part of the night, too, making it even more beach-like. “They have a relay race over at the pool and they are playing beach ball games. They probably have like 30 different sizes of beach balls in there,” said Jesslyn with a laugh.
Donuts, muffins, and cookies were available thanks to Tim Hortons. A fan favourite was the big, inflatable obstacle course. Throughout the three-hour event children could bounce around from one station to the next while parents either chatted amongst themselves or played along.
The next Tim Hortons’ Community Fun Night will take place on Saturday, May 12. Events are always free unless otherwise stated, and everyone is welcome to attend. For more information, call the AJMC at 780-778-3637.
