On April 25, a workshop on funding and grants for seniors was held at the Allan & Jean Millar Centre. Fay Arcand, FCSS Co-ordinator for the Town of Whitecourt, organized the event with Service Canada.
“The purpose is to understand the process for seniors who are getting ready or already collecting benefits, how to fill out forms, and to answer any questions. We give as much information as we can or give them access to where they can find it,” said Arcand.
Mark Berlin with Service Canada presented a slide show with information sheets to help explain the Canada Pension Plan, and what happens if your spouse has died. Other topics included information on Survivor’s Pension, Guaranteed Income Supplement, disability, and death benefits.
Berlin encourages everyone to read up on what is available and what to expect. For more information visit www.canada.ca.
