Time for school

st-marys-3It’s back to school time! On Wednesday afternoon, kids and their parents were invited to St. Mary’s school, ahead of Thursday’s start date, to meet their teachers. The Members of Organized School Events (MOOSE) society organized the annual barbecue fundraiser event, sponsored by Pembina Pipelines, with all funds raised going towards their many projects.  Local firefighters also brought one of their fire engines down to the school with Sparky in tow. Kids enjoyed checking out the truck and giving Sparky high fives. Children were all smiles as they saw their friends and peeked inside their new classrooms.

The MOOSE Society is the fundraising committee for École St. Mary School. Over the past 14 years the group has worked very hard to enhance the learning environment for their students by providing items not covered by provincial funding. Past and current projects include gym equipment, stage lighting, water bottle filling station, the playground, and Community Lunch Box annual fees.

On Wednesday, September 28 at 7p.m. the society will hold its annual general meeting at the school and they encourage anyone interested to come and see what the committee is all about. In order to operate fully and do all the good work they do, they require board members, volunteers, and lots of new ideas. It’s a much-needed time commitment that benefits all the children at St. Mary’s. For more information, email moosesocietyfundraising@gmail.com.
