One man is in hospital after a highway accident involving two semi-tractor units on July 10 both travelling eastbound on Highway 43 collided at Chickadee Creek. Whitecourt Transport hauling wood chips, with hazard lights flashing as the truck progressed up the hill, was rear-ended by a second semi-truck owned by Gennaro Express, a division of Gennaro Transport Driver Training.
Dave McNevin, General Manager of Whitecourt Transport, said, “There was so much momentum that when he hit our truck, he actually passed it after the impact. He proceeded to veer off in front of our unit before going into the ditch. If it wasn’t for the quick actions of my driver who swerved towards the ditch, the truck would have hit it a second time, and the outcome could have been much worse.”
There is approximately $30,000 in damage to the Whitecourt Transport trailer while the other unit is suspected to be a write-off.Two rotator wrecker units were dispatched out of Edmonton to clear the scene which took most of the evening. The driver of Gennaro Express was taken to Whitecourt hospital via ambulance for evaluation.
