This week, Peace River – Westlock MP Arnold Viersen joined his Conservative and NDP colleagues on the Indigenous & Northern Affairs Committee to call for an emergency meeting to discuss the impact of the Federal Court Of Appeal’s decision on the Trans Mountain Expansion Project.
As a result, a meeting of the Committee will now be held tomorrow, Friday September 7, 2018, to consider whether to proceed with a study to review the federal government’s First Nations consultation process with respect to the purchase of the Trans Mountain pipeline and the approval, construction and purchase of the Trans Mountain expansion project. http://www.ourcommons.ca/DocumentViewer/en/42-1/INAN/meeting-116/notice
On Tuesday, the Conservative and NDP MPs on the Natural Resources committee forced a meeting to discuss the future of the Trans Mountain project. However, the Liberal MPs quickly shut down the meeting.
“Based on the tactics we have seen earlier this week by the Liberals, I am not hopeful that our Committee will have the opportunity to review the Trans Mountain project and First Nation consultation,” said MP Viersen. “With thousands of people out of work, the Liberals need to stop shutting down questions and concerns of Canadians.”
