The April edition of the Night Out in Whitecourt (NOW) Event was a crowd favourite: billiards night! Held at the Water’s Edge Pub in the Quality Inn, members of the Whitecourt Pool League came out to teach skills to newbies and elevate techniques to those who already know how to play. This is the third time the league has joined the NOW event and each time it proves to be a popular evening.
Sabina Cook was one of the league members on hand and said that introducing new players to the sport is a plus. “We have actually gotten a few people interested in joining the pool league from doing this event. The town does a really good job putting on these events. It’s a good way to get out and meet different people.” Cheryl Baranitsky attended the two-hour event and really enjoyed herself as she learned tips and tricks while having a great time. “I had so much fun and I would love to do it again.”
Scotch Doubles will be starting next week and will run into July while the regular league will commence again in September. To keep up to date on events with the league, search “Whitecourt Pool League” on Facebook.
The free monthly NOW events bring together local adults for a fun night out to make new friends and try new things. Past events have included wine and beer tasting, snowshoeing, and tubing at Eastlink Park. Recreation Co-ordinator with the Town of Whitecourt, Emma Harper, always puts together a fantastic evening, working hand in hand with local businesses to utilize as many different locations as possible.
The next event coming up on May 12 will be the last one until the fall as the event breaks for the summer. The Whitecourt Darts League will be holding its 3rd Annual Darts Fundraiser for the Stollery Children’s Hospital that night and the NOW attendees will be joining them for a fun tournament. With prizes, draws, and the opportunity to learn how to play darts in a fun and welcoming environment, it’s certain to be a night not to miss!
